CHIDDI SCORES HIS 3RD HATTRICK AS MARINERS TROUNCE KALIGHAT MS

25-Nov, 2009 : Mohun Bagan today beat Kalighat MS 4-0 in a Kolkata Premier League match. Chiddi scored his 3rd hattrick for Mariners while Ishfaq scored the other goal.
Mohun Bagan looked to pile pressure on the visitors from start of the match. In 9th minute, Micky gave a long pass to Branco who was fouled outside the penalty box. Ishfaq took the free kick which was cleared by Kalighat defence. Few minutes later, Branco headed the ball towards Chiddi who took a right footed shot from edge of the box that missed the target by a whisker.
Micky looked in good touch today in first half compared to his not-so-good form at the start of the season. In 16th minute, he gave a long pass to Ishfaq in left flank, who went past one defender and sent a low cross in the box, but due to a misunderstanding between Branco and Chiddi, the ball was cleared for safety.
Such was the dominance of Mohun Bagan that Shilton first got his touch on the ball in 20th minute. Ishfaq scored the first goal in 26th minute when he brilliantly took a right footed free kick from left flank which curled, beat goalkeeper and went to back of the net.
In 30th minute, Chiddi came close to scoring when Tomba-Zenith combined well in the right flank and the resultant pass from Zenith went to Chiddi who shot out from close range. In 34th minute, due to a mistake by Biswajit, Kalighat made a rare attack but the cross from right side went straight across the face of goal. In the very next minute, he made up for his mistake by making a good run down the left flank and sent a cross that was fisted away by goalkeeper.
Around the 40 minute mark, Ishfaq and Branco played a wall pass amongst each other, and Ishfaq cut in and took a shot that deflected off defender for a corner. From corner, Ishfaq sent a cross that was nicely flicked by Branco but the ball went straight to goalkeeper.
After lemon break, Mohun Bagan got a penalty in 49th minute when Souvik's shot hit hand of Daniel inside box. Chiddi scored from the spot kick to make the scoreline 2-0 in favor of Mariners.
Chiddi scored his second and Mohun Bagan's 3rd goal in 54th minute. Souvik dribbled past one player and Kalighat goalkeeper could not gather his cross properly, the ball bounced in front of Chiddi who nicely lobbed the ball over a defender who was standing in goalline to score the goal. In 58th minute, amidst cheering from supporters, Japanese recruit of Mohun Bagan, Seuoka came in place of Branco. His first touch was a delightful through pass to Ishfaq and minutes later Seuoka attempted a backvolley but he could not connect the ball properly.
In 65th minute, Seuoka released Tomba on the line who went into box and gave a back pass towards Seuoka but unluckily his shot went straight to goalkeeper. Tomba looked in great form today as his run caused panic in Kalighat defence time and again. He attempted quite a few shots from outside the box, a couple of them were saved by goalkeeper and a few went over the cross bar.
Seuoka dazzled the crowd with his performance and won the heart of fans in his very first match. In 63rd minute, Seuoka dribbled past two players in left flank and gave a pass towards Chiddi but Kalighat defence cleared the ball.
In 84th minute, Snehasish, who came as a replacement for Ishfaq, got a pass from Chiddi, made a good solo run and took a shot but Kalighat goalkeeper saved a certain goal by diving to his right.
In 89th minute, Chiddi completed his hattrick as he got a pass from Seuoka, went past 2 players including goalkeeper and from an acute angle took a left footed shot that went into goal. Thus, Chiddi, the goal machine, completed his third hattrick of the season. He has already scored 2 hattricks against East Bengal and Pune FC.
One should not forget that today there was only 1 player from first team i.e. Chiddi. Coach Karim have to be given credit for today's win as he has kept his reserve bench match fit. Between I league matches, Mohun Bagan played many practice matches where mainly the 2nd team players participated. We hope that like Karim's previous recruit for Churchill Brothers, Mboyo, his new recruit, Seuoka, will be of immense benefit for Mariners and the player has already started showing his class.
Souvik, the U-19 player from Mohun Bagan Sail Football Academy, was adjudged Man of the Match today. He really is an utility player who played well today in central midfield. In the first match of Kolkata league against Kalighat, he came as a substitute and played in right half position.
Mohun Bagan will next play against Customs on 29th November in Mohun Bagan ground.
