MOHUN BAGAN CONCEDES 4 GOALS IN AN AWAY MATCH AGAINST CHURCHILL

07-May, 2010 : Mohun Bagan went down 0-4 against Churchill Brothers in an away match held in Goa. It was another poor performance by the team, especially the defence comprising of players of Indian National team. Also there was hardly any resistance from midfielders with absolutely no snatching or blocking by Marcos, Manish or Sueoka. Mariners also got quite a few chances to score but Barreto alone missed 3 very easy chance while Marcos and Surkumar failed to score from very close range with goalkeeper out of position. Felix, Kalu and Odafa scored for Churchill Brothers while Manju scored an own goal.
In the 15th minute, Churchill goalkeeper Arindam failed to grip Marcos' corner and the ball seemed to cross the goalline, referee could have awarded a goal in favour of Mariners but he chose otherwise.
A back pass from Gourmangi resulted in a sudden move by Mohun Bagan. Chidi dribbled past Arindam and sent a back pass towards Barreto, but his shot was saved from goalline by Raju.
Churchill scored the 1st goal in the 21st minute. Odafa dribbled past Dipak without any resistance whatsoever and his shot went to back of the net deflecting off Manju's leg.
Felix made the scoreline 2-0 in the 26th minute. Kalu sent a through pass towards Felix. The whole defence of Mohun Bagan was up hoping to play the offside trap, but Mohanraj was standing deep and referee rightly said play on. Felix took the ball inside the box and his shot went inside goal deflecting off Shilton's leg. Shilton could have done better.
Adding to the woes of Mariners, the scoreline became 3-0 in the 31st minute. Unmarked Kalu headed the ball in from corner with Shilton completely out of position. Surprisingly, there was no marking for Kalu who came from behind to put the ball inside goal. Goalkeeper did not even jump or made an attempt to clear the ball.
Barreto missed the easiest chance of the match in the 33rd minute. From Chidi's pass, Barreto shot wide from very close range. Few minutes later, Barreto again got the ball in open inside the box but his right footed shot ballooned over the crossbar.
Manish was replaced by James Singh in the 37th minute. Sueoka switched position with James and moved to central midfield. In the next minute, Surkumar took a rasping shot from outside the box, Arindam partially saved the ball, return ball came to Marcos who had open goal in front of him but his hurriedly taken shot went out.
In the 51st minute, Barreto took a good shot from Snehasish's cross, but narrowly missed the target.
Odafe scored the fourth goal for Churchill in the 52nd minute. Felix dribbled past 3 defenders inside the box with Dipak and Manju falling to the ground, ball came to Odafa who just had to push the ball inside goal. While the ball went inside goal, Shilton was just standing in the goalline.
Biswajit made the 2nd change in the 56th minute, bringing Rakesh Masih in place of Mohanraj. Dipak went to left back position. However, this did not help, as within a span of 3 minutes, Odafa made two good moves, both down the left flank of Mariners, easily dribbling past Dipak Mandal.
After conceding the 4th goal, Shilton played well for the last 30 minutes and made at least 4 good saves.
Santa Kumar replaced Snehasish in the 69th minute. In the 70th minute, Chidi gave a very good through pass towards Barreto, who dribbled past Arindam but his shot was saved from goalline by alert Churchill defence.
Churchill midfield completely outplayed Mariners' today and completely dominated the game. Barreto tried few long ranger shots in 2nd half, but all went out of target. Only one shot of Surkumar took a dip and just went over crossbar.
Felix unleashed a shot in the 80th minute, ball beat Shilton and hit post.
From Chidi's pass, Surkumar missed another chance to score with goalkeeper out of position.
Chidi tried a lot for Mohun Bagan today and he was the only player who tried to do something positive for the team.
Mohun Bagan will play their next match against Viva Kerala on May 11th.
