MOHUN BAGAN LOST LAST MATCH OF I LEAGUE; NEXT SEASON'S TEAM MIGHT BE ANNOUNCED ON 4TH JUNE; MB GOES OUT OF U-19 I LEAGUE
Kolkata ,
28-May, 2010 : Mohun Bagan went down 0-2 against Mumbai FC today in their last I league match played in Mumbai.
IFA today officially declared Mohun Bagan winner of this year's Kolkata Premier League and canceled Chirag's request for a replay.
In today's match, lot of players from first XI were not there due to injury and suspension because of yellow card. Mohanraj, Sangram and Marcos missed the match due to yellow card while Barreto was not there due to injury. Chidi had already gone back to his home because of his wife's health problem.
The first XI comprised of: Proloy, Zenith, Dipak, Masih, Biswajit, James, Micky, Lalramluahah, Isfaq, Sueoka, Suraj.
Mohun Bagan conceded an early goal in the 11th minute. The hosts got a penalty when Ishfaq tripped Subhash from behind inside penalty box. Abhishek scored from penalty.
Mumbai FC went 2-0 up in the 23rd minute. Abhishek scored his 2nd goal. Pralay fumbled to gather an easy ball and Abhishek pounced on the rebound ball and slotted it home past stranded goalkeeper. Pralay was very shaky and it was a surprising decision to put him in the first team, as Shilton was there in the reserve bench.
Biswajit also looked very shaky and most of the attacks were coming down his side. Mumbai FC completely dominated proceedings in the first half and Bashiru came close to scoring few times. This prompted coach Biswajit to make two quick changes after the 2nd goal replacing Biswajit and injured Dipak with Surkumar and Azim. He also brought in Branco in the 2nd half in place of James and went into a more attacking formation of 4-3-3.
Sueoka played his heart out and tried a lot to score but did not get much support. Even Biswajit looked disappointed after the match and said, "There was absolutely no motivation in the team. I tried a lot to motivate the players but the body language of few players were not good though Sueoka tried his best. He played like a true professional."
In the 2nd half, things settled down a bit and Mariners got few chances to score but Branco, Suraj, Lalramluah missed chances. Ishfaq made few good runs but nothing resulted from those. At the stroke of 90 minutes, Lalramluah's shot was cleared from goalline.
Mohun Bagan thus finished 5th in this year's I league with 36 points from 26 matches. Mohun Bagan scored 48 goals which is the 3rd highest but on the other hand conceded as many as 43 goals, 2nd from bottom, only Air India has let in more goals.
In the other matches, though Sporting Clube de Goa defeated Chirag, they have been relegated to 2nd division along with Lajong FC who lost the last match 3-1 against Salgaokar.
Meanwhile, the club officials might announce next season's team on the 4th of June.
In U-19 I league, Mohun Bagan was hold by Sporting Clube de Goa to a 1-1 draw yesterday. Both the teams got 4 points from 2 matches but the team from Goa progressed to the final on the basis of more goals scored. Mohun Bagan had scored the first goal in the 16th minute through T. Lalnunpuia but Sporting fought back to equalize. Later in 2nd half, Mohun Bagan missed few easy chances and one of their effort hit post. Sporting de Goa will meet East Bengal who beat Pune FC 2-0 today to qualify for the finals.
